Mail dispatch systems for hospitals, laboratories and medical practices

Mailing systems designed for hospitals, laboratories, and doctors' surgeries: ensure secure and legally compliant shipping of your diagnostic samples

In a health and research system that relies on the division of labour, the transportation of sample materials is a regular occurance. Improper packaging poses risks that could compromise the integrity of the samples.

Our mailing boxes and the corresponding secondary containers for different sizes and quantities help you to minimise these risks. SARSTEDT mailing systems guarantee optimum sample transport in a variable and cost-effective manner. For a cost-efficient workflow that also benefits your patients. Find out more and discover the customised shipping solutions SARSTEDT have to offer!

Diagnostic sample dispatch

In order to process patient samples efficiently and safely for diagnosis , highly efficient mailing systems are required. Above all, it is important to minimise the risks associated with logistics in the healthcare sector. For example, all transport packaging must meet legal requirements for labeling and composition. This is particularly important as medical samples always pose a potential risk of infection due to the sample material. Certain samples may require consistent cooling conditions to ensure sample integrity is preserved during transport.

With SARSTEDT, you will have a reliable partner for medical transport and mailing systems at your side. We organise the pre- and post-analytical workflow as efficiently as optimal medical care requires – to benefit you and your patients. The transfer of diagnostic samples between practices, clinics and laboratories is safe and time-saving and requires little effort: for guideline-compliant compliance when sending diagnostic samples!

Customised mailing systems for diagnostic samples

The choice of packaging for sample transport is heavily influenced by the potential hazards or classification of the hazardous substance class. Find out more about the classification of infectious substances →

SARSTEDT provides the correct packaging solutions for the transportation of "Biological substances under category B" for the substance class UN3373 of ADR, RID and IATA.

Directive-compliant packaging must consist of three components:

  • Primary Conatainer: For liquid substances, the primary or secondary receptacle must be able to withstand an internal pressure that results in a pressure difference of at least 95 kPa (0.95 bar) without loss of contents. In any case, the primary packaging must be leak-proof. Therefore, it is crucial to select the correct combination of primary and secondary packaging.

  • Secondary Container: The secondary containers provide privacy and mechanical protection for plastic primary containers. Absorbent material must be inserted between the primary and secondary container. SARSTEDT secondary transport and mailing containers are available with or without absorbent inserts.

  • Outer packaging: SARSTEDT outer packaging is available in three sizes. We can provide you with a customised mailing address label on request. Alternatively, you can also use SARSTEDT self-adhesive labels with or without a pre-printed shipping address.

Good to know:

The shipping boxes have been tested and approved by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM). The requirements of packaging regulation P650 for substance class UN3373 of ADR, RID, ICAO and IATA are fulfilled in combination with suitable primary and secondary receptacles.

The packaging system also complies with Deutsche Post AG's "Regulations for the transport of infectious substances, national letter".

All boxes can only be sent as maxi letters and are therefore cost efficent . Thanks to their great variability, they are ideal for holding SARSTEDT shipping containers in a wide range of dimensions. Depending on the version, you can securely fix and cushion the secondary containers using the integrated locking mechanism or the enclosed foam film bag. For gentle transport of the sample material while minimising mechanical stress.

Transport system for cooled samples according to P650

The SARSTEDT cold transport container is suitable for 2 sample tubes with maximum dimensions of 107 x 16.5 mm, such as the 9 ml S-Monovette® or 13 ml screw tube 101 x 16.5 mm. Efficient cooling of the samples over several hours can be achieved by storing the containers in a freezer compartment.

In combination with the appropriate mailing box and absorbent liners, makes this packaging solution complient of the P650 regulation.
