In the ceremonial opening of the 12th Annual Meeting of the medical society at Leipzig Congress Center on 14 October, Professor Dr. Michael Neumaier, DGKL President, and Rainer Schuster, Member of Executive Board / Sales, Research & Development, Sarstedt AG & Co., conferred the 50,000 award sponsored by Sarstedt to Professor Dahlbäck, Lund University in Malmö, Sweden.
Prof. Dahlbäck is an internationally renowned physician and scientist with multiple honors for his achievements in blood coagulation research. His research has substantially contributed to detecting the molecular principles of protein C and S coupled inhibition of the blood coagulation system. Prof. Dahlbäck’s observations also led to the discovery of further biological interrelations between blood coagulation and the complement system.
“On behalf of DGKL, we are delighted to award this year’s prize to a brilliant scientist who has rendered pioneering research work with findings we come across in our everyday haemostaseological diagnostics” said DGKL President Prof. Dr. Michael Neumaier in his speech in honour of his Swedish colleague.
For 40 years already, the renowned Biochemical Analysis Prize has been awarded for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of biochemical and molecular analytics. In 2015, the prize has now been sponsored for the fourth time by Sarstedt AG & Co.
The award has gained a particularly noteworthy significance by the fact that, in the past, altogether five of the laureates, after having received the Biochemical Analysis Price, were later on also awarded the Noble Prize for their research work. The 50,000 prize is one of the most significant awards conferred by a medical society in Germany.
